Promoted Work: Talos Buccellati & Venera Kazarova

This is a beautiful collaboration between the photographer Talos Buccellati and the very talented, Russian artisan Venera Kazarova who makes the intricate paper cut creations worn by the models. Both are fond of "volume and pure shapes"; Venera's nature inspired forms are complimented by Talos's striking portraits.

Other contributors to this project are Alice Anselmi (stylist @ Atelier Caraco); Mayumi Oda (make up); Lera Kvasuoka, Margherita Raso & Romane Douillet (models).

Promoted Work: Maria Louceiro

Maria Louceiro's work is quite etherial; she works in layers that obfuscate any clear narrative but there are always hints at some ungraspable meaning.

Her work can be followed on Tumblr and Flickr; she also has a Facebook page for those who would like to catch her there.

I couldn't write this without a mention of her photographs of live bands; they carry a lot of the qualities of her other work except that her obfuscation is with light and smoke; very cool.

Promoted Work: Animae / Treats!

Last week I received two publications in the mail; while the two are completely different in content and material, they both gave me the same thrill and I thought I would write a short post about them.

The strength of independent publishing is in its diversity and its focus on delivering its own message as opposed to just being a vehicle to serve advertising. Please support indie publishers!

Animae

Animae

Don't let the newsprint and rough edges fool you, Animae is beautifully crafted; the paper is a perfect fit. This publication has this seamless way of weaving the photography, design, illustration and words together into a very unique style. It's edgy and sexy; analogue and tactile; graphic and considered.

Animae is priced at £5 and is still available; it can be ordered here.

Treats!

Treats!

Treats! is very accomplished; someone has thought about how it feels in your hands (very nice), the weight of the paper and the layout but far more important is the nature of the content. This is no shiny glamour mag with vacant, plastic subjects or unidentifiable, shallow photographers; it's a collection of very good photographers that approach their contributions with their own style and integrity.

Treats! is available to order as a subscription or individually (physical and digital) from their website; it's worth the price.

Promoted Work: Brittany Markert - In Rooms

If you live in New York then Brittany Markert's exhibition In Rooms should already be on your calendar; it opens tonight at Fuchs Projects in Brooklyn.

Brittany's work is regularly shown on this site. She has grown in depth and her work has become increasingly provocative without ever slipping into cliché.

This is one exhibition that I really regret missing (I live on the other side of the world); I do have one of her prints and I can say without hesitation that her work is really worth supporting.

I hope people send me links of those covering the show on instagram and the like. If you are in New York, this is where to find Fuchs Projects:

Promoted Work: Tajette O’Halloran - Deep In A Dark Reverie

"Deep In A Dark Reverie is a visual documentation of dream states - states that are universally familiar in both their chaos and their illusory, fleeting clarity."

Tajette O’Halloran's very interesting exhibition Deep In A Dark Reverie opens tonight at the House of Bricks in Melbourne.

If you are not in Australia, I recommend you check out her work on her main site, there is some great work (her travel photographs are particularly good).

The House of Bricks can be found here:

Promoted Work: Manfredi Gioacchini

Manfredi Gioacchini has had quite an education and was assisted some incredible photographers but he is really a great photographer in his own right; he has been published in two of my favorite independent magazines - Bambi and REVS. He is also responsible for these two cracking sets of Veronika Vilim and Daniela Botero.

He is definitely an artist to keep an eye on for the future.

Promoted Work: Veronika Durbakova

Veronika Durbakova has a series called Hair, Lips, Marshmallow and Wellies which captures two girls "who live in abandoned places of Novesta factory, exploring its secret corners, tumbling all bored on old sofas and looking for some fun. Viewer gets to see private, a sort of voyeuristic views of girls dressed only for themselves, but those instant scenes are not always easy to comprehend and he might never find out what is going on in this place".

You can find the full series on her new tumblr. I love her photographs; she is definitely worth a "follow".
