Free access to The Quiet Front

A couple of people have written to me about continuing to keep The Quiet Front open to the public. After 3 years of this and getting very little support, I really don't see the point of catering to a huge but unsupportive audience. Having said that, there are some people that may genuinely struggle to support us or may live in a country that does not offer payment facilities to do so; what I will do is post the password to the site a few days before I release a new book to give people a chance to go through the archive. I will post them on twitter and tumblr.

On the Future of The Quiet Front

I love what I do here. I've been influenced by a few great websites but I've never felt like I was slavishly following anyone; I am really proud of the work I've done. I've also been able to connect with some really great artists; some of them I can even count as friends.

That, unfortunately, is where the lovefest ends. A few months ago I tried to get people to support this project by running a campaign to fund a book of original works; I still believe that it would have been a beautiful collection of work. Support for it was abysmal. I have really been thinking about this whole project in the months since then.

I don't do this so that I can have an audience; I could give a shit about the number of people that show up here everyday. The reason I've put so much time and love into this is so that I can find like-minded people who will support it so we can go even deeper with it.

It turns out that is an extraordinarily small percentage of the visitors to this site; okay - that is my audience then. Everyone else? I don't know what you are doing here.

From December 1st this site is going to serve the people that support it. We're doing our book; by necessity we've had to spread it out over a longer time frame by only doing a few sets at a time. After we've published the original artists then we'll keep going and include new contributors. The password to get access to the site is published in the back of the book.

Support The Quiet Front - Book 1

This site has been a labour of love and The Quiet Front - Book 1 is a very important step for the future - it gives us a chance to produce original works; it is going to be something really beautiful. The idea is also that these books will eventually support the site and help make it even better.

I have have put in countless hours of finding the best work, retouching thousands of bad scans and finding sources for really great art; if I cater to your aesthetic then you will be hard pressed to find a more consistent and better source. If you come here week-in and week-out then please consider supporting us and we'll do our best to give you something special. 

I'm not good with the whole marketing thing and I'm certainly not connected to any industry insiders. I have carried this whole project to this point and now a few fantastic artists have stepped up (hopefully many more in the future) and we would love your help.
