Canada, in response to student protests of rising tuition fees, has banned the wearing of masks during protests and prohibited groups larger than 50 people from congregating in demonstrations. It is a reminder that freedom is something that needs to be exercised and fought for because, even in "free" countries, there are forces that set out to curtail the freedom of expression and the freedom of association.

Maxime has taken the most direct and literal opposition to these laws by putting his subjects in masks; he is planning 51 portraits, the number required to constitute an illegal gathering.
